I can usually find exactly what I'm looking for. I have Komplete which covers a lot of ground, but use Analog Lab for retro synth sounds. You can't build patches from scratch but you still have access to the filter, ADSR, and LFO on most of the presets and can save them as new ones. It's the preset only version of the Arturia Collection. I'd also consider Arturia's Analog Lab.especially if you can find it cheap (less than $100). Bundles like Arturia Collection and Komplete are great tools to focus on the music and get stuff DONE.

It's absolutely a steal when compared to V Collection not on sale. This collection does cost $60 more than V Collection on sale, but I think for the three heavy hitters it's worth it. OB-Xd can be a little temperamental at times. PG-8X is kinda nice to have around, but it's probably the weakest of this bunch. Synth1 is probably the best "utility" synth you can get for free. Dexed isn't exact on a DX7 but if you set it to "modern" mode it can make really nice clean FM sounds. TAL U-NO-LX is buttery as fuck even if it's not exactly on a Juno 60. The Legend seems spot-on (I don't actually own it though). Pretty much this gets you emulations of the Prophet 5/Pro-One, Minimoog, and Juno 60 as well as the Yamaha DX7, Clavia Nord Lead 2, Roland JX-8P and Oberheim OB-Xa. U-He Repro - $150 Synapse Audio The Legend - $100 TAL U-NO-LX - $60 Dexed - Free Synth1 - Free PG-8X - Free OB-Xd - Free There is an "alternate" set up paid and freeware plugins that I strongly recommend. I should mention I also own Komplete 11, which helped tip me towards selling V Collection. I just felt there weren't any particularly impressive plugins within V Collection to justify keeping it. I had V Collection 5, but I wound up giving away my license to a friend when I bought my Prophet REV2. V Collection is a nice all-in-one synth package.
